How to curb your sugar cravings - Guest Blog Post by Every Day Health

How to Curb Your Sugar Cravings

Uh-oh! You’ve kept up with your diet all day, but now it’s post-dinner, and you’re feeling the urge to nosh and indulge on a  sweet treat.  You creep over to the pantry to find yourself face-to-face with a big box of those choco-choco-chip cookies that always provide you with a comfortable sugar rush. You’ll just have one, you say, but soon find yourself elbow deep in cookie crumbs.

Sound familiar? Falling into the craving conundrum can sabotage all of the hard work you’ve been doing to eat right and exercise. Next time you think about eating a bowl of cake batter or a pint of ice cream, try these tips.

1. Distract yourself. When you really want to snack, call a friend, listen to music, take a bath, or go for a walk. Putting yourself elsewhere will keep you from the kitchen.

2. Get rid of it. If you don’t have the high-calorie junk food around you, you can’t indulge in it.

3. Pick a healthy snack instead. Make a better choice like Greek yogurt and fresh berries, peanut butter and apple slices, or a whole fruit popsicle. Even a little dark chocolate can help satisfy a sugar craving and boost your antioxidants too.

4. Drink something. No, not a can of soda. Drink lots of water, and, if you need a little flavor, go for naturally flavored seltzer.

5. Mint-ify your mouth. Chew on some minty gum or brush your teeth to wash out that sweet tooth.

6. Talk to a community. There’s nothing like chatting with others who are struggling with the same temptations. Try a weight-loss-support-group group for some extra weight loss support
.

Stay strong! It will be worth it.
