MUMS keeping it REAL - Special guest blog with The Yogic Housewife!

MUMS keeping it REAL
Special Guest Blog with Nicola Garcia
5 Steps to Happiness
I am so very excited to share a very real and inspiring guest post today with The Yogic HousewifeNicola Garcia. I just LOVE it when mums, especially really inspiring ones like Nicola share their wisdom and experiences in a very real life way.
It is like a breath of fresh air on motherhood.
It makes for advice you not only can actually follow as a busy mum, but want to follow too.
Below is such an honest and moving post, one that will help you feel better and feel somuch  happier especially on those days when you really need it the most!
Be sure to follow Nicola's BLOG and Facebook page for more of her inspiring wisdom, and stay tuned for her new book!

Five Steps To Happiness
A short introduction to me (before you get the wrong idea), I am a happiness guru, a positivity pusher, a believer in the Universe and everything coming at the right time. I love to do things that make me happy, spend time with my kids, go on dates with my husband and love my life. But….there are some days when it is just so good to get your grumpiness on….and know that this is not the end of your happiness, but a blip on one day.

Below I share my story of such a day and give you some inspiration for making those days better….

Yesterday, for me, was a long tedious blur. Mantras were not working.
“I am happy and fulfilled” was not cutting the mustard. I did not feel happy, nor fulfilled.
I woke up in a mood and the rest of the day stretched out in front of me, bleak and full on with two little people to look after.
Let’s just say their behaviour was tipping the wrong side of abysmal.
When my husband, who’s been over-committed to social occasions lately, rolled out of bed, I listed my gripes and that helped release some tension.
I then decided to put my black energy into something constructive.
I tackled the mess that some would call a playroom. I couldn't see the floor. There were toys littered, puzzle pieces in random boxes and cars under my feet.
This gave me the right to provide the evil eye at any person (small or large) that came within my vicinity.
Nobody helped me.

In fact a couple of times I was hindered, but I kept on.
Satisfied when the room was ordered and gleaming, I moved on to the bathroom cupboards and started de-cluttering. As I got to get rid of some of my husband’s things, this provided me with a glimpse of happiness and my mood improved.
I decided to give everything I was putting out to a Women’s refuge: cue feel good moment and a new intensive purpose. My wardrobe was attacked and it now looks stream-lined and healthy. I parted with things I didn’t think I could.
A good cause will make the decision easy.
By midday I was done. I made a vegetable-heavy mince for Bolognese and got mean satisfaction from watching my family chow it down.
Ditto with the risotto I made for dinner.
By 5pm I looked back over my day and was so pleased that my mood turned around.
Fun Mum and Happy Wife came back.

So, my tried and tested steps to happiness are:
Yell At Husband
Tidy and Throw Out Things
Give To Good Cause
Hide Vegetables in Children’s Food
Re-live steps 1 – 4

I would love to know if any of this works for you. Don’t tell your husband or kids that it was me who gave you the ideas!
Xx

Kids having trouble getting off to sleep? Dinosnores could be just the answer! Guest interview with their creator Sherene Alfreds

Kids have trouble getting off to sleep or aren't very rested when they wake up? Dinosnores could be just what you are looking for!

Dinosnores are sleepy stories using guided relaxation and visualisation to help kids sleep and have won America's Creative Child CD of the Year 2011 and 2012. Featuring 9 sleepy story CDs.

Q Where did the inspiration for the Dinosnores come from?

Like so many good things, inspiration for Dinosnores came from experience.  My own daughter, Emma, found it difficult to sleep during her preschool and kindergarten years.  So I combined my love of relaxation and my training as a speech pathologist with her interests (dinosaurs) to create imaginative relaxation stories to help her sleep.  Dinosnores sleepy stories was born.  And it gave me back my nights to read and relax (and now work!) after a busy day.

Q What is it about Dinosnores that sets it apart from other bedtime stories?

Four main things set us apart.
1. Each story CD runs for a full hour (the final half our CDs are natural soundscapes without spoken stories), helping to make sure children stay settled after falling asleep.
2. Calming natural soundscapes evoke an imaginary world, as well as masking distracting household noise
3. The stories have been scripted using my background in speech pathology to build language and listening skills.  Slow rates of speech, repetition, and learning themes, encourage children to listen with understanding and learn about the natural world.
4.    Teach relaxation and visualisation techniques to children

Q They go for an hour, what made you decide to make them go for that long and do you find this helps?

If children are light sleepers, they wake easily to the sound of household and neighborhood noise.  By lasting a full hour our CDs mask household noise.  Parents can stack the dishwasher, leave the washing machine on, or relax and watch television.  On New Years Eve I run  our CDs on repeat all night, so that my kids are less likely to wake to boisterous party noise in the neighborhood.

Q How important is relaxation and breathing to a good nights sleep?

It’s essential!  Relaxation and focusing on breathing helps children calm their busy minds as well as distracting from bedtime fears.   Bringing the mind inward, using breath, is central to both yoga and meditation.  And in recent years it has also been established in the medical literature as benefiting mental and physical health.

Just this year, a Lancet Medical Journal review reported that the best way to cure insomnia, and bring on sleep, is not medication - but to change bedtime behaviour.  Specifically they identified use of relaxation techniques, good sleep hygiene and cognitive behavioral therapy.

So the evidence that relaxation helps people sleep is strong.  We just need to learn the skills.  Fortunately, children are so fast to learn relaxation skills that parents report our sleepy stories get their kids to sleep the very first time they listen!

Q What exactly is good sleep hygiene?

Good sleep hygiene involves having a regular bedtime, calming bedtime routine and regular waking time.  Good sleep routines allow our bodies can then anticipate and wind down ready to sleep.  We also need a dark, warm, comfortable room to sleep - used only for sleep and not for television, computers or rough and tumble play.  Finally, to help sleep at night we need to get enough exercise and outdoors sunshine during the day.

Q And the stories can help build language skills too?

All stories help build language skills.  But Dinosnores sleepy stories are particularly good at building language skills as they have themed vocabulary.  Like our computers, human brain like to store related words and topics together.  So each new word a child learns is best learnt with other related words.  This encourages them to develop neural pathways connecting all related words.  It helps them recall and use these new word themselves.  By providing a story with themed vocabulary we are enabling children to develop strong neural connections between related words, while children enjoy an imaginative story.  Also by using a repetition and a slow but normal (as opposed to more rapid) rate of speech, children are allowed more processing time to listen with understanding to both the words and sentence structures.

But as fabulous as our sleepy stories are, they don't replace the bedtime story with a parent.  That shared time, and attention cannot be replaced.  But our CDs do give parents a good exit line “Of course you can have one more story darling - I’ll just put on your sleepy story CD for you.”

Q How much difference to you think a good night’s sleep makes to both the children and their parents?

Just enormous - and recent Australian research supports this.  This year the Australian Murdoch Children's Research Institute found that 38.7% Australian kindergarten children have sleeping problems and that child sleep problems were associated with poorer child and parent mental health.

I personally found it very difficult when my then three year old daughter was having trouble sleeping at night.  It was so draining!  My daughter would be grumpy and irritable.  I knew it was largely because she wasn’t getting enough sleep - but the bedtime routine alone was not working.  I felt worn out because I had no time to myself to recharge - even at night, plus I was pregnant!  It was a very difficult time.  I looked for child relaxation CDs but none appealed to my to my daughter or me.  So I started developing my own stories, and mixing them together with relaxing soundscapes.  I got my nights back to myself and the rest is history!

Sherene Alfreds is mother to one 7 year old tom-boy and a lego obsessed 4 year old boy.  Trained as a speech pathologist, she now uses or professional and personal experience to create Dinosnores sleepy stories.  Her sleepy stories have won Creative Child Seals of Excellence, CD of the Year 2011 and 2012, are recommended by psychologists and loved by children!

Happy Food Shopping with a Toddler - WIN a Trollipop!

Taking kids shopping is often not easy, taking a toddler shopping is usually a nightmare.  There’s that difficult age which can start around 12 months where they can become resistant to sitting in the shopping trolley child seat.

For parents to survive shopping with young children – the best way is to try and keep them safely secured in the shopping trolley child seat for as long as possible.

However, this is easier said than done! So here are some tips to get them in the shopping trolley and keep them there that may help.

* Park near a trolley bay in the carpark and put them straight from the car into the child seat in the shopping trolley.  If you carry them into the shops or let them walk, there is less chance you will get them to go willingly into the shopping trolley.

* Use a shopping trolley cover with a built in harness – the child waist strap on the shopping trolley is often not sufficient to prevent children from trying to wriggle out of the seat.  An over the shoulder harness can deter this behaviour, and the cover makes the trolley more comfortable and inviting for them too.

* Get the essentials first – that way you are not pushing them beyond their limits and getting yourself stressed out to get those essentials, if they start to get restless.

* Keep that trolley moving! Put the fruit, vegetables, meats, deli items and other grocery items that you need to stop to pack or select at the top of your list and get them first.  This way if they are getting restless towards the end you can quickly get the rest of your essentials and get out!

* Encourage independence - use a shopping trolley organiser so they can get their own snacks, drinks and toys

* Make sure you continue to talk and interact with your child – let them know they have your attention by singing, talking, giving kisses and cuddles etc. This done consistently may remind them that they will get a lot of attention if they sit in the shopping trolley child seat and encourage them to want to sit there.

* Wherever you can get them to help – the fruit and vegetables section is great for this give them a bag and where fruit and vegetables are stored up high and within easy reach get them to help fill the bag (just make sure they are secured in the seat with a restraint and do not lean over to reach items)

* Keep a special toy or treat in your hand bag to keep them entertained while you wait at the checkout - try wrapping a small toy in a few layers of paper, this keeps their hands and mind busy while you unpack and pay for the shopping.

* Lastly, keep them in the trolley until you return to the car, once again if they figure out they can get out and run around that is what they will want to do – no stopping for that $2 merry go round – straight from the shopping trolley child seat and back into the car.

* Be persistent! If they are starting to resist the trolley, try as much as you can to get them to sit in the shopping trolley child seat.  My 2 year old son often resists however once I get him strapped in, we get moving and he is snacking away he has forgotten all about trying to get out.

So remember, be organised, don’t plan to do everything, get the essentials and get out.  Keep up the interaction and get them to help wherever possible. From car to shops and back to car keep them in the shopping trolley child seat.

Guest Post & Recipe - Zoe Bingley Pullin & a new program by Australian Avocados

Aussie Kids Urged to Try Nature’s Rainbow!

By Zoe Bingley-Pullin

We all know that vegies and fruits contain essential nutrients that are vital for children’s health, growth and development but, let’s face it, sometimes all the washing, peeling and chopping involved in preparing fresh snacks can seems like a hassle to a busy parent! Indeed, with the development of more pre-packaged supermarket snack options, it is increasingly common to see trolleys stacked with boxes, tubs and plastic packages rather than fresh produce.
The problem is that many of the pre-packaged snacks may look healthy but are actually hiding some really nasty ingredients. To investigate the nutritional value of popular snacks like kids yogurts, rolled fruit snacks, cheese and cracker packs, fruit juice drinks and savoury biscuit snacks, I recently conducted a review of some of the popular options in these categories, with the support of Australian avocado growers. The results showed that, in many cases, these products contained alarmingly high levels of sugar, salt and unhealthy fats.
Some cheese cracker snack packs contain up to or over 100 per cent of a three year olds’ recommended daily sodium intake. Sweet puffed rice bars were also shown to have up to a quarter of a toddler’s recommended daily sugar allowance and, disturbingly, some children’s yogurts can be higher in sugar than adult varieties.

This means that at a time when essential taste preferences are being established, parents may actually be putting their kids on the wrong track, long term.
Research shows that 70 per cent of taste preferences – that is, the foods and flavours we choose to like or dislike – are formed at a very early age. This means it’s really important to encourage healthy eating habits right from the beginning with little ones, showing them just how delicious it can be to eat a rainbow of fruits and vegies.

An initiative that helps improve the eating habits of Aussie toddlers, which I’m a passionate supporter of, is the ‘Eating My Colourful Vegies and Fruit’ early childhood learning resource kit.
Developed in 2010 by Australian avocado growers in association with nutrition and education experts, Shelly Woodrow and Nadine McCrea, the program provides educators with the necessary tools to engage kids and help them develop healthy, varied food preferences in fun and positive ways.
The resource kit contains development-based food exploration activities to encourage growth of language, science and food literacy skills. A free tray of delicious, healthy avocados is also provided to each childcare centre.
Avocados are a rich source of dietary fibre, low in salt and sugar, mild flavoured, creamy and fun for kids to experiment with, so they are a perfect colourful first food for little ones to be exposed to.
Using the resource as a guide, educators encourage three to five year olds to explore the variety and origins of vegies and fruit and practice life skills as beginner cooks. They also build and expand their social abilities by sharing their snack creations with others.

This innovative program is really working to help Aussie kids get a healthier start to life, but of course, parents have a huge role to play – we need to ditch the processed snacks and instead, whip up nutritious options with fresh produce, involving kids in the cooking process along the way. This is a great way to make those positive connections with healthy vegies and fruit.

Here is my suggestion for a healthy snack alternative to some of the pre-packaged snacks often given to toddlers.

Avocado Yoghurt with a Strawberry, Cinnamon and Honey Puree
Prep time: 10-15 minutes
Serves: 2

Ingredients:1 avocado, pip and skin removed 1 cup yoghurt 1 punnet of strawberries 1 tbsp honey1 tsp cinnamon

Method:
1.            In a blender place the strawberries, honey, cinnamon and blend until smooth.
2.            In a bowl mix the avocado and yoghurt thoroughly together.
3.            To serve, spoon out 4 tablespoons of avocado yoghurt mixture with some strawberry puree on top.

How to curb your sugar cravings - Guest Blog Post by Every Day Health

How to Curb Your Sugar Cravings

Uh-oh! You’ve kept up with your diet all day, but now it’s post-dinner, and you’re feeling the urge to nosh and indulge on a  sweet treat.  You creep over to the pantry to find yourself face-to-face with a big box of those choco-choco-chip cookies that always provide you with a comfortable sugar rush. You’ll just have one, you say, but soon find yourself elbow deep in cookie crumbs.

Sound familiar? Falling into the craving conundrum can sabotage all of the hard work you’ve been doing to eat right and exercise. Next time you think about eating a bowl of cake batter or a pint of ice cream, try these tips.

1. Distract yourself. When you really want to snack, call a friend, listen to music, take a bath, or go for a walk. Putting yourself elsewhere will keep you from the kitchen.

2. Get rid of it. If you don’t have the high-calorie junk food around you, you can’t indulge in it.

3. Pick a healthy snack instead. Make a better choice like Greek yogurt and fresh berries, peanut butter and apple slices, or a whole fruit popsicle. Even a little dark chocolate can help satisfy a sugar craving and boost your antioxidants too.

4. Drink something. No, not a can of soda. Drink lots of water, and, if you need a little flavor, go for naturally flavored seltzer.

5. Mint-ify your mouth. Chew on some minty gum or brush your teeth to wash out that sweet tooth.

6. Talk to a community. There’s nothing like chatting with others who are struggling with the same temptations. Try a weight-loss-support-group group for some extra weight loss support
.

Stay strong! It will be worth it.

The Simple Things - Guest Post by Best Selling Author Sally Collings

Sally Collings – guest post on The Simple Things

Most weeks, I have a conversation with one of my daughters that goes something like this:
‘Mum, I want an iPad [substitute consumer item of choice here], can I have one?’
‘What do you want one of those for?’
‘Everyone else in my class has one.’
‘Are you sure … ? And in any case, that doesn’t mean that you need one.’
‘That’s so unfair!’
‘Life is unfair, sweetie. But do you know the best way to be happy?’
[Roll of eyes.] ‘No, what is it?’

‘Want less.’

I don’t know if it’s working, but it’s a message I try to slip in whenever I can. I really believe that much of the stress and strain we experience is to do with striving, competition, and the sheer drive to consume. It’s everywhere, and it is hugely difficult to resist.

That’s why I’ve co-written a book called The Simple Things with Antonia Kidman. The sub-title is ‘Creating an organised home, a happy family and a life worth living’, because we both feel that those three things are intertwined. Organisation is about being conscious of what you buy, keep, and own, and stripping back where needed. Families thrive when their days are focused on experiences rather than stuff. Life has more value when relationships rather than ownership are at the core.

I’m no domestic goddess, so some of the things Antonia and I write about in our book are not second nature to me. Batch cooking, for example: I know it’s a great way to save time and cooking, but I often forget to buy big enough quantities of the ingredients I need. Some weeks it all comes together, though, and those weeks feel better, less flustered, more in the flow.

One of the tips in The Simple Things that I really love is ‘the minimalist home’: paring everything down so that your home is streamlined and clutter-free. My family is just about to move house, so I’ve just done a major minimalisation in our house, and I love it. I get a kick out of seeing benches without bits and pieces all over them, beds freshly made – I’ve even developed a taste for rolling towels, though I think I’ll get over that pretty soon! It’s been a major effort to get the house that way, but two things that helped were tackling one room at a time and getting the kids involved. We turned it into a competition to see who could fill a garbage bag first, which is a great motivator!

Strangely enough, simplicity isn’t always the easy option. It can take courage to say no, to fly in the face of what everyone around us seems to be doing.

The results are worth it, though. A happier, healthier, more peaceful life for you and your family is really worth the effort.

A Positive Birth Revolution in the Making-with Katrina Zaslavsky

A Positive Birth Revolution in the Making
A Modern Woman’s Guide to a Natural Empowering Birth: An Inside Interview with Author Katrina Zaslavsky

  1. Tell us, what is your new book A Modern Woman's Guide to a Natural Empowering Birth all about?
My new inspirational book, A Modern Woman's Guide to a Natural Empowering Birth (AUD $34.95 via http://shop.inspiringbirthstories.com.au/) is a collection of inspiring birth stories, expert tips and practical insights to overcome our fears and reclaim our birth power in a modern world, with Afterword by Dr Sarah Buckley MD, internationally renowned author of “Gentle Birth Gentle Mothering.”

  1. What inspired you to write this book?
When I was pregnant for the first time, I remember being insatiably hungry for knowledge. I wanted to know everything there was to know on pregnancy and birth and was ready to devour every book on the subject I could get my hands on. This was an important step on the road to self empowerment, yet I found most books were either too clinical, boring or uninspiring and was left rather dissatisfied.
Like many first time mothers, I was also very fearful of the birth process even though I believed (and still do) that natural is best. That was my approach to life in general so it just made sense. That meant a big bridge to cross from intense fear and anxiety at even the mere thought of labour to feeling completely at peace. Having faced and worked through this fear, resulting in two natural drug free births with my beautiful girls and then coaching others in bloom, I felt compelled to help empower other women to walk the same path.  Read my story “Mum on A Mission” here: http://shop.inspiringbirthstories.com.au/meet-the-author/

  1. How is your book different from the others on pregnancy and birth?
I wanted to bring back the magic, the miracle and beauty of birth – this is what I felt was missing from many books I had read and what is was really about. I also felt there was a strong need to un-medicalise or normalise birth in our society. So in essence, my book is the opposite of the ones I had read as a first time mother. Many women have shared how easy it is to read, how they “couldn’t put it down,” that it was “refreshingly real,” “a must read” and one reader even called it “the most inspiring book” she had ever read on the subject!” WOW! To me that is the best compliment and the most heart warming “thank you” an author could ever receive! More rave reviews here: http://inspiringbirthstories.com.au/blog/category/rave-reviews/

  1. Why are modern women so fearful of giving birth?
In the book, A Modern Woman’s Guide to a Natural Empowering Birth, I discuss the lack of sisterhood when it comes to birth. Women tend to share horror stories when they spot the bump, instead of anything remotely helpful or inspiring for a new impressionable expectant mother. How often do you hear, “Oh I had the most AMAZING BLISSFUL birth experience, let me tell you all about it...” Didn’t think so! Lol J
Those that have a negative or traumatic experience tend to spread it far and wide and unload on poor unsuspecting pregnant ladies. (a form of therapy at others’ expense) Those that have a positive experience tend to keep it to themselves since they feel content and complete in themselves or don’t want to appear as if they are bragging. If all we ever hear is the negatives, then we may get the impression that birth is something to fear, endure and that it must involve drugs or medical procedures. As you will discover in the book, A Modern Woman’s Guide to a Natural Empowering Birth, this does not need to be the case!! In fact, birth can even be a joyous experience.
f you follow the media as your only frame of reference, then you have every reason to be afraid! Birth is currently a hot topic in the media, yet again all we ever hear are the horror stories or what goes 'wrong.' (it seems negative stories are the only ones that make newsworthy headlines so that’s all we hear about) This only feeds the fear and keeps us trapped in the birth fear epidemic that is so prevalent in our modern society.
Meanwhile, Hollywood movies paint the picture of birth as a frantic emergency rather than something that can happen calmly. Such movies only depict birth as a routinely medical event instead of the greatest natural miracle we can participate in and something we are perfectly designed to do as women without outside ‘help’ or minimal if any interference.
I really feel that women now, more than ever, need to hear positive stories to remedy this, to normalise and un-medicalise birth in their own minds (our thoughts create our reality!) and bring back the beauty, magic and miracle of this natural process that it truly is at it's essence.... and restore our faith in mother nature and our own bodies to do what we are designed to do!
Remember this is nothing new, this is what women have been doing since the beginning of time. The truth is, women are gloriously capable of giving birth and just need to take good care of their wellbeing, to stay in their power, trust themselves and own their magnificence!

  1. You refer to yourself as a “mum on a mission.” What drives you to share the message of empowering birth so actively?

I was the same as many other women, I have been there myself so I can relate. The birth process has always been mysterious and one of my greatest fears, yet I could never have imagined that one day it would become my greatest achievement and source of new courage and confidence not only as a mother but as a woman. Now that I have walked the path from being absolutely terrified to feeling completely at peace and on the other side, been positively transformed through birth, I would love every woman to experience the same thing. So now it’s become my new purpose in life to empower women around the globe to reclaim their birth power and discover their inner birth goddess. To remember what we are made for. Underneath all the fear, negativity and misconceptions there is a beautiful birth goddess just waiting to emerge!

  1. How would you describe the process of writing this book?
An amazing adventure! I became so obsessed and immersed in the process of writing that it was all I could think about day and night for many months. Now I understand why writers remove themselves from their daily lives and go off into a forest somewhere! I didn’t have that luxury with two young kids at home. However, I did become more intuitive and spiritually aware throughout this process and really stepped into the role to get back in touch with my own experiences and how I was feeling at the time. I even remember having a vivid dream that I was pregnant myself!
Also I have always been a very private person and I surprised myself that I was able to abandon myself to the project and bared my soul to my readers. Not only did empowered mothers and birth professionals share their stories, insights and tips throughout but there is a personally commentary from my own experiences and the birth lessons I gained along the way.
It is an intimate topic that we don’t normally speak about so openly and in such detail (a bit like sharing your love life!), yet I felt that this topic was so much bigger than me and if it would change lives of women around the world then it would be worth it. One reader confirmed this when she described the book as “raw and real.” That is exactly what I had envisaged.

  1. What kind of benefits can a new mother to be, expect from reading the book?
It is designed to be a complete mind body preparation guide for every woman in bloom - for some this will be everything they need to know in the one book. And will save their precious time looking around for helpful, positive books on the subject or researching like mad, like I had to do the first time to find answers! For others it may send them off on a whole new journey of discovery. For instance, they may like to explore water births or finding a doula which is something perhaps they didn’t know about or hadn’t considered before. It has been so exciting to read all the amazingly positive reviews that have been coming in steadily. You can read what others say about the book here: http://inspiringbirthstories.com.au/blog/category/rave-reviews/
And meet one of our empowered Mums here in this live video interview: http://inspiringbirthstories.com.au/blog/2012/resources/interview-with-rebecca-dettman-on-empowered-birth/

  1. Why do we need to read inspiring birth stories?
In many cultures we have traditionally learnt important life lessons through sharing stories eg fables. So I thought it would be a great way to not only inspire women but also share valuable birth lessons. The things that we wish someone had told us before we had given birth!
Dr Sarah Buckley (meet her here: http://shop.inspiringbirthstories.com.au/meet-the-contributors/) says “one of the best ways to prepare for birth is to saturate ourselves in positive birth stories” and that is exactly what we have here. A great antidote to the negativity that we are surrounded by in the ‘real world.
Hopefully this will help many women to overcome their fears and reclaim their birth power. To choose what’s right for them and to become an active and conscious participant in the process rather than having things done to them or without their knowledge or consent. There is no right and wrong when it comes to birth, only choices. Informed choices are the only real choices and this will give mothers what they need to know to make informed choices for themselves and their babies. This is why the book is both inspiring and empowering.

  1. I understand you a currently on a national launch tour. Will you be visiting the Sunshine Coast?
Yes! I am excited to come to your beautiful city, Sunshine Coast in March 2012 as our next stop on our Australian launch tour. See event details here: http://inspiringbirthstories.com.au/events/
Looks like I am coming for good reason too- I was just reading that Queensland has the highest rate of caesarians in Australia (currently 34 per cent of all births and even higher in Queensland's private hospitals, at 48 per cent! Too many women are uninformed in this area...so we need to make major changes in this department!
  1. How do you believe this book will help create a positive birth revolution? In life there are some things we plan and others life plans for us! This book was a result of the latter, a labour of love, very inspired and something I felt needed to be done, even with two beautiful kids at my feet. Writing this book was not something that I had planned in my head as a ‘good idea’. It is something that simply struck me one day and felt right. The project has completely taken over from that day onward and has grown a life all of its own. My new “baby” so to speak!
This is so much more than a book to me, it is my calling in life right now to bring more awareness, empowerment and consciousness to women and I am very inspired to share this message of empowering birth with the world.
I really feel that if we can put this book into the hands of first time mothers to be, then we could prevent many cases of unnecessary birth trauma and the resulting postnatal depression that follows from such an experience. This is why I am so possessed to spread the word and be part of the change in creating a positive birth revolution across Australia and beyond!
